Louise Millmann
Louise Millmann’s desire to focus specifically on collage began on an 18th Century writing desk located in an old house on Pawley's Island, South Carolina in the summer of 1997. This small "found-studio" became a favorite haunt during her brief stay. Since then, she has been "borrowing" STUDIO SPACES all over the world, discovering that her mountains of ephemera had a reason for consuming most of the space in her small NYC studio. Her “Your Face Here” collage series began by using self portrait photographs which were scanned and digitally incorporated into mass produced media gifted from other artists or found at flea markets and print shops. The original self-portrait raw prints were packed along with scissors and glue and taken on the road to be combined with found indigenous ephemera. Her collages have been created in temporary studios; (kitchen tables, park benches or hotel desks) in locals from Nicaragua to Paris.
